movie review

During this GLPS camp, the students of class 13~16 got an opportunity to watch a movie called "The Princess Bride" and write a movie review about it.

To give a brief summary, there was a girl named Buttercup and a poor farm boy named Westley, and they were in love, a true love. But one day, Westley goes out abroad to earn money for their marriage, but a news is told that Westley was killed by pirates to Buttercup. In despair, Buttercup determines to never love someone again. However, Prince Humperdinck announces that Buttercup would be his wife, making her a princess and of course Buttercup  hates it. One day, 3 guys kidnap Buttercup and take her to an island over the "cliff of insanity". The 3 guys are were Vizzini, who yells at everyone and claims himself to be very smart, Inigo who is a kind Spanish sword fighter and who wants to avenge for his father, and Fezzik the giant. While they are capturing Buttercup, they realize that a man in black is following them. First, Vizzini made Inigo confront him, but Inigo was so kind and good mannered, and even told the man about his story that he is trying to avenge a man with six fingers, who killed Inigo's father. So as a respect, although Inigo loose in their battle of swords, the man in black doesn't kill him and just knocked him out. Later the man confronts Fezzik, also in a good manner, so the man doesn't kill him. Lastly he finds Vizzini, holding Buttercup in hostage. With a brain-using-game, the man won and he poison kills Vizzini. Finally, Buttercup realized that the man was Westley, who wasn't dead at all. After some adventure in the forest, they are caught by Prince Humperdinck and Count Rugen. In the last moment, Westley notices that Count Rugen has 6 fingers on his right hand, then he was knocked out and brought to the "pit of despair". And of course, the prince and the count lies to Buttercup that Westley is sent back to his previous work place. While Buttercup is locked in Prince Humperdinck's castle, Count Rugen deals an issue with Westley. He invented a torturing machine and experiments it with Westley, and it turns out that the torturing is a great success. Meanwhile, Buttercup didn't listen to Prince Humperdinck and made him really mad. With the rage, Prince Humperdinck stomped to the "pit of despair" and killed Westley with the torturing machine. Still Buttercup doesn't know the sad news and waits for him to come and save her. While the incident is going on Inigo finds out Westley, who had won him in the sword fight and asks him for avenge for his father. With the help of Fezzik, they find dead Westley, and takes him to the Miracle Max and bring back his life. But because he has been dead for some time, Westley couldn't move well. After scaring the gate keepers of the castle, Inigo fights with Count Rugen and finally avenge him. After Westley defeats the Prince Humperdinck, the four; Buttercup, Westley, Inigo, and Fezzik leave the country to find their own peace.

"The Princess Bride" is directed by Rob Reiner and its genre might be romance, comedy, action, adventure, fantasy and family .It was released in 1987. There was some grumbling about the word "princess" included in the title, but I must say that it's quite a good work. However, in my perspective, it's too lame and typical princess & poor young man love. The princess and the poor young man are in true love, but the man had to go away, so the princess falls into a harsh situation and the prince makes the princess marry him, but the poor man comes back, dies, revive, then they leave. But I liked the part of a grandson and the grandfather leading the story. The movie is led by the grandfather reading a book to his grandson. Every scene when the son and the grandfather shows up, everyone could laugh constantly. Another thing I liked is the comic parts. Not only boring romance was the main topic, but there were quite some scenes of comedy. Overall, I sill think it's typical and lame romance story, but as a 1980s movie, I think it's a good movie and deserves its fame and popularity.

Here is the official trailer of the movie :)

  2. Ki Moon- You did write a good summary of the plot however some sentences in the second parargraph should be in the introduction instead (the genre and when it was made). In addition, you should share lessons and leadership you learned from the film.

Finally, you need to write a conclusion summarizing your movie review. You are a good writer but just need to improve your structure.
